@reddevil, using
"Antony.and.Cleopatra.[1972].720p.BluRay.H264.AAC-RARBG.mp4"
as source (I can use both HB and XMR on this) I set for HEVC and between Good and Better, size same as source and do not remove bars. I did set NR as I wanted to see how that performed with is rather noisy source (still fighting XMR on this important detail). Preview appears to be just snapshots w/o noise reduction applied (so worthless). I proceeded to start encoding and allowed to run to 10% and stopped. Tricycle did close the file so I could play it as my sample (XMR also allows this for preview) but MediaInfo cannot give me a KB/s number (XMR does) so I take the sample size and multiply by 10 and find the encode will be 10% larger than the source but the NR did reduce the noise by 90% which is what I look for not wanting to remove actual content. I went into Options and found the steps count is not the steps between selections but the total number of steps between worse and best- I set to 10 for both. btw, every time you change anything the video select changes back to AVC from HEVC- annoying. I changed speed to slow for both and the limits to 27 to 18 (that should address your quality issue). Audio choices seem much more restrictive than either HB or XMR. CPU usage at 'medium' is ~99% but at 'slow' is ~80% (this is good with heat of summer coming). Changing speed to 'slow' does yield a better quality result but file size is only about equal to source now.
Obviously much more effort is needed but at least here are some preliminary results.

@reddevil, OK, first full length encode done. Moving speed from 'medium' to 'slow' did much to improve the quality but time to encode went from XMR speed to HB speed. Quality is good @1 218 KB/s (maybe a little high, but in range for classic movies. Overall size is 1.387GB compared to source of 1.971 (2:35 length).

My impression is this will serve beginners as a good starting point that may fill all their needs, period.
A quick test of a RARBG x265 shows it will reencode it albeit at about 1/4 normal viewing speed.

@@reddevil, Tricycle is a good, lightweight app for re-/encoding videos. It is much more powerful than it seems at first impression, although many control are in config (json) files and may need manual adjustments. That is why I posted the 2 most important.
Now, to be nitpicky,
As mentioned before changing most settings seems to reset video type from HEVC to AVC. I rarely do AVC (X264).
Saving templates do not show you existing templates so if you want to overwrite an existing template you must remember the name. Also the prompt must be highlighted to overwrite it.
For Quality setting you cannot set halves from the GUI (unless setting the number of points greater than the number between the lowest and highest would force that- hmm something to explore. btw, i did change the range to 27-17 to force a true mid-point. 25 here is like 24 in HB or XMR (since last update).
The NR has no obvious way to change setting, although for the sample source it was perfect (like HB but unlike XMR).

I still need to explore cropping. XMR works but seems tricky, confusing (at least to get a true 1280x720p with minimal loss).
Very promising.

It looks very good using same settings except for 6ch sound. It took a little under 8 hours which is better than HB but it did it with an RARBG HEVC source.
